Long County High School senior Kwanzi Lattimore signed Monday with Point University to join the Skyhawks’ football program in 2012.
“I am very proud of Kwanzi and his accomplishment. I look forward to hearing about his success at the next level,” LCHS athletic director Karen Swindell said.
Lattimore, who played football for the Blue Tide all four years of his high school career, received honorable mention on the 2011 2-AA All-Region Football Team.
Skyhawk coach Nick Collins recognized Lattimore’s athletic ability and his character at the signing.
“Although football is the reason we were attracted to Kwanzi, it was his character that kept him on our radar,” Collins said. “As much as it is important to get good football players, it’s just as important to get guys that fit the Christian principles on which our university is founded.
“As we prepare to put our stamp on our program, it’s important for us to recruit guys that meet our specific profile. We felt that Kwanzi being over 6 feet tall with lots of room to go was good, as well as him being a smart young man.”
Point University, located in the Atlanta suburb of East Point, is a Christian college that began its football program last year at the club level, completing a seven-game schedule where they went 2-5, with wins over Columbus State and Gray Military Academy.
This year, the Skyhawks will compete as a varsity sport team with a full 11-game schedule and play in the NAIA’s Appalachian Athletic Conference.  Their first regular-season game will be on Sept 1, when they travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to pay Edward Waters College.
