Scott’s All*Stars recently awarded its sixth scholarship for $200 to Michael Farrior.
Farrior, a Liberty County High School graduate, is attending Savannah State University, where he hopes to play basketball. This would make him the first Scott’s All*Stars player to play Division I basketball.
Scott’s All*Stars founder and coach Marcus Scott said Farrior is an example of what he expects all the players to accomplish.
“We are glad to be able to help Mike fulfill his mission and the mission of Scott’s All*Stars to teach basketball and life skills to young males that have the potential academically and athletically to play basketball on the college level,” Scott said. “Not only is our program now able to help our kids prepare for college, but we are helping them pay for college. We hope to one day be able to offer more money for our scholarships.”
Other players who received scholarships last year were Dazjon Tinae, Elijah Jones, Larry Murray, Jalen Watson and Cameron Livingston. Sayvon Wilson and Tray Tucker also were on team and are now in college.
To receive a Scott’s All*Stars scholarship, players are required to have been in the program and attend the annual end-of-the-year banquet. Community members wanting to donate to the scholarship fund can call 912-655-4371 or go to www.scottsallstars.com.
During its second season, the program, which is entering its fifth season, a high-school group of mainly seniors was added with its then-fifth-grade team. All seven of the seniors from that group now are in college: four received athletic scholarships and two received academic scholarships. Farrior was the only junior and Savon Walthour (who will graduate this year) was the only sophomore.
