Former Liberty County Lady Panther basketball player Metra Walthour has joined the basketball staff at her alma mater Georgia Tech.
She is now a graduate manager on the Yellow Jacket women’s basketball staff.
According to a press release on ramblinwreck.com Walthour finished her Tech career in 2012, after helping the Jackets to four 20-win seasons and four NCAA Tournament appearances, including Georgia Tech’s first Sweet 16 trip in 2012.
In her college career Walthour helped the Yellow Jackets win 95 games, the most in Georgia Tech’s history. Walthour ended her Yellow Jacket career ranked fifth in career assists with 398, third in games played with 128, seventh in three-point shots made and attempted with 125 and 389 respectively, 10th in assist average with 3.0 and fifth in minutes played at 3,532.
During her senior year, she helped the Yellow Jackets break several records, the release reported.
They finished 2012 with 26 wins, a program-best 12 ACC victories, a school-high tie for third place in the ACC regular season and a school-record 10 road wins. Tech reached the second ACC championship game in program history, earned its highest seed in the NCAA Tournament, 4, advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time and finished ranked No. 10 in the coaches poll, the article reported.
“Becoming a part of Georgia Tech women’s basketball again means a lot to me, and I am very excited about the opportunity,” Walthour said. “There is no other place I’d rather be to learn and develop myself in order to prepare for a future career in athletics. I hope I am able to help the coaches and players in every way possible, and I am forever grateful to coach Joseph and Theresa Wenzel (associate AD/senior woman administrator) for the opportunity to learn and to receive a second degree. I am looking forward to more great memories with GTWBB.”
The article reported Walthour earned her degree in science, technology and culture from Georgia Tech in May 2012.
