The Highlander diamond boys are on point in making a run for the Georgia Independent School Association Class 2-AA Region playoffs.
The Highlanders fell Friday to last year’s state champions Brentwood School, 10-0, in Sandersville. But the night before they were in Savannah where the boys quickly disposed of St. Andrews, 12-0.
Highlander pitcher Morgan Crean earned the win, striking out nine batters and giving up one hit.
Coach Andy Yanzetich said the boys’ bats were on fire again and base running helped FPCA nab a 4-0 lead in the first inning. FPCA managed 14 hits.
Highlander DeShaun Collins, who just signed a scholarship to play baseball at St. Andrews College, led the FPCA boys in hitting, going 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 singles. Catcher Phillip Swindell was 3 for 4 with 3 runs, 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. James Phillips was 2 for 4 with a RBI and Richard Lovelady was 3 for 4 with a triple and 4 RBIs.
After Friday, FPCA’s record was 4-2 overall, according to gisastats.com.
