Georgia Southern senior linebacker Edwin Jackson has been named to Athlon Sports’ All-Sun Belt Conference third-team defense, as announced by the national media company and reported on gseagles.com.
The former walk-on from Atlanta started all 11 games last year and was the Eagles’ top tackler with 92 total. He had a game-high eight solo tackles in Georgia Southern’s win over Florida at “The Swamp” and shared the game-high total with 10.
The Westlake High School graduate tried out for the Eagles and was invited to the preseason roster for the 2011 camp. Jackson has played in 36 of Georgia Southern’s 39 games in the last three years and is the projected starting linebacker this season in 2014.
The Eagles will play in the Sun Belt for the first time this season.
