The First Presbyterian Christian Academy Lady Highlanders continued their hot streak Tuesday with a 5-0 victory over Frederica Academy on St. Simons Island for their third-straight shutout win.
Lady ’Lander Kelsey Higgason got a hat trick by scoring three goals in a row. Brooke Standard scored the other two goals.
FPCA head coach Tom Sukaratana said his team displayed excellent defense.
“They had only five to six shots at our goal and we had 26 on theirs,” he said.
Sukaratana said Megan Higgason played well at left-back, and Asyria Daniels was nearly perfect at sweeper. He added that Megan Gillon stunned the crowd.
“She does the flip throw, and she did about five of them, averaging about 38 yards a throw,” the coach said. “She almost added a goal because Frederica’s keeper tried to catch one of her flip-throws, touched the ball and then the ball hit the goal post … for a minute, we thought it went in …. there was a baseball game going on at the adjacent field, and most of the people turned to watch our game when they saw her flip-throws.”
The ’Landers were scheduled to host Robert Toombs on Thursday and then head to Albany for this weekend’s Sherwood Soccer Tournament.
After Tuesday’s action, FPCA was 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Georgia Independent School Association’s Region 2-AA.
The FPCA boys’ match against Frederica was moved to 6 p.m. March 20. The Highlander boys were scheduled to play Robert Toombs on Thursday immediately after the girls’ game and also go to Albany tournament.
In other local soccer news, Bradwell dropped its games Tuesday against the Richmond Hill Wildcats. The Tigers lost, 4-0, and the girls lost, 7-0. The Tiger boys are 3-3 overall and 2-3 in Region 3B-AAAA. The girls are 4-2 and 3-2 to date. The Tigers will host Glynn Academy today starting at 5 p.m.
The Liberty County Panther boys got a little revenge Tuesday by beating Statesboro High, 2-1, just one week after falling to the Blue Devils at home. The Panther boys are 3-3 overall and 2-1 in Region 3A-AAAA.
The Panthers were scheduled to host Savannah Country Day School Thursday in a makeup game that was postponed in February due to weather. Results were unavailable at press time.
On Tuesday, the Long County High School boys’ and girls’ soccer teams fell to Atkinson County in Pearson. The boys lost, 7-1, while the girls fell, 4-3.  With the losses, both Tide team fell to 2-5 overall and 1-5 in Region 2-AA. Today, both squads are back on the field to take on Metter.  The girls’ game begins at 5 p.m. with the boys’ action following at 7 p.m.  Results from these games will be in Sunday’s paper.
