Lady Panthers end fourth in region

It was a nail-biter Thursday for the Liberty County softball team, who had the game at Cross Creek tied at 1-all until the fifth inning.
However, the Lady Razorbacks edged in one extra run to take third place in Region 3-AAAA beating Liberty County High 4-3 Thursday.
Lady Panther pitcher Kaleigh Fisher took the loss. Fisher struck out three, walked two and gave up a home run and a double.
Senior Meagan Folker went 2 of 3 with two RBIs and a triple to lead the Lady Panthers at the plate. Cassidy Collum went 1 of 3 with a double and one run scored.
Rachel Smith and Kathryn Carter each had two hits in the game. Jeresha Roberson and Serena Davenport scored one run each.
“Meagan has really improved her hitting at the end of the season,” Lady Panther softball coach Jerome Standard said adding that despite the hits his squad did not play to their full potential.
“We were the most athletic and skilled team but did not get the job done,” Standard said. “We left several runners on base early in the game and made a couple of costly errors in the field. They had one earned run, which was a home run in the first inning.”
The Lady Panthers will play this week in the state tournament. The best of three starts with a double-header Wednesday.
Standard said it appears they play against Crisp County.
