Lady Tide fall to Jeff Davis on diamond

The Long County High School softball team lost a tough game Monday to Jeff Davis County, 5-0, in Ludowici.
The Yellow Jackets got four hits, leading to four runs. in the top of the fourth.
The Blue Tide had their chances during the last few innings but didn’t capitalize.
With one out in the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Tide’s Harley Dawson singled to right field to put a runner on base. Ashley Desbiens hit the ball in the infield, and on the throw to second, the Jeff Davis second baseman dropped the ball. That gave the Lady Tide runners at first and second. Madalyne Flynn bunted and outran the throw to first to load the bases.  
But the next batter, Samantha Garcia, flew out to center field and Alyssa Anderson was thrown out at first, leaving the base runners stranded.  
In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Tide had runners at first and second, but once again were unable to bring any home.
Garcia hit a double in the bottom of the sixth but was stranded.
Jeff Davis added another run in the seventh inning.
Erin McGowan got the win for the Yellow Jackets, while Dawson picked up the loss. Jeff Davis had nine hits and two errors, while Long County had six hits and four errors.
The Lady Tide fell to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in Region 2-AA, while the Yellow Jackets are 2-1 overall and in the region.  
“We came out flat tonight and didn’t show a lot of energy, but we are young and our team has a lot of girls with little experience … we just have to practice harder and come into our games more focused,” Long County coach Brian Thomas said.
