Local track athletes shine in Gainesville

Members of the We Run It Track Club, a local team comprised of middle- and high-school athletes, placed well at last week’s Jimmy Carnes Invitational Meet in Gainesville.
According to team coach Nathan Mimms, this national meet had 1,500 participants.
He said it was impressive to see many of his athletes finish among the top 20 in several events considering the volume of competitors at the meet.
“Our kids did very well against some of the best track athletes in the nation,” Mimms said. Shasanay Mims of Midway Middle School placed third in the shot put. Liberty County High School freshman Alyisha Anderson finished eighth in the long jump and 15th in the in 55-meter dash.
Lady Panther junior basketball player and track standout Jaelynn James placed 19th in the 200 dash.
Senior Lady Panther Courtney Bennett placed fourth in the shot put.
In the boys’ division, Panther freshman Eric Sanchez placed third in the 800 run and 12th in the mile run.
Panther sophomore Jarquel Richardson-Frazier was fifth in the 55 hurdles, 10th in the 55 dash and 17th in the 200 dash.
