Led by the pitching of Harley Dawson and Emily Hester, the Long County softball team beat St. Vincent’s Academy, 12-0, Tuesday.
Playing in Savannah, Dawson and Hester combined for a no-hitter against the Saints, who struggled through six innings.
Dawson also was hot at the plate, leading the Lady Tide by going 2 for 3 with 2 doubles. Also having a nice night at bat was Cat Wingate, who went 1-1 with two runs batted in.
Coach Brian Thomas praised his team, especially his pitchers.
“I was really proud of Emily and Harley. They threw strikes and faced only one batter over the minimum,” Thomas said.
With the 2-AA Region win, the Lady Tide improve overall to 2-1 and the region mark to 1-1. The Saints fell to 0-1 overall and in the region.
Long County was scheduled to play twice later in the week, at Claxton Wednesday and against Vidalia High Thursday at home. But both games were called because of rain.
Monday, the Lady Tide takes on Jeff Davis from Hazlehurst in another big region matchup.
As of Friday the Lady Yellow Jackets were 1-1 overall and in the region. In recent years Jeff Davis has had Long County’s number having won all of their games since 2006, according to GeorgiaPrepCountry.com.  The game is in Ludowici and is scheduled for 5:55.
