Tuesday was a rough night for the Long County High School basketball program as the girls’ and boys’ teams lost to McIntosh County Academy in Darien.
The Blue Tide fell behind, 33-13, at the half and couldn’t get back on track before losing to the Buccaneers 63-39. Brendon Scott led the Blue Tide with 14 points, and Vanda Vereen Jr. had eight points.
With the loss, the Tide dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in Sub-Region 2B-AA, while the Buccaneers improved to 2-2 and 2-0, respectively.
Things were no better for the Lady Tide, who fell, 62-29. McIntosh came out strong, taking a 21-7 first-quarter lead and never looked back. The Lady Tide fell to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the region, while the Lady Bucs improved to 3-2 and 1-1.
The Long County teams have a busy weekend. They host Bacon County tonight in region action and face Liberty County on Saturday in Flemington in non-region games.
The Bacon County boys’ team brings an impressive 4-0 overall record and a 2-0 region mark into tonight’s contest and is coming off a 63-38 win over Bryan County. Like the Lady Tide, the Bacon County girls’ team is looking for its first win of the year. The Lady Raiders go into tonight’s game 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the region.
Tonight’s action begins with the girls’ game at 6, with the boys’ game to follow.
The Liberty County boys go into Saturday’s game with a 6-2 overall record and are coming off a big 62-47 win over Burke County, while the Lady Panthers bring in a 4-4 mark having fell to the Lady Bears. Saturday’s games start with the girls’ game at 4 p.m.
