Former Liberty County High School baseball players Aaron Hoffer, Trey Sikes and Brandon Whitmore made their Savannah State University debut during the Tigers’ season-opening doubleheader at Presbyterian College on Sunday in Clinton. S. C.
According to the Tigers’ website, SSU lost, 9-5 and 4-0.
Whitmore transferred to Savannah State University after playing his first two years of baseball at South Georgia College. In game one, Whitmore pitched five innings and gave up seven hits, five runs and two walks.
Sikes also attended South Georgia College where he made the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association All-Region second team last year. Hoffer, a senior catcher for SSU, played at East Georgia State College.
The Tigers were scheduled to host Georgia State on Tuesday and will play at Kennesaw State at 5 tonight.
Last season, the Tigers won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament for the first time and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time since leaving Division II. They finished the season with a 33-23 record.
