Three Bradwell Institute baseball players were selected for Region 3-AAAAA All-Region honors
Sage Sammons was named to the team as a utility player, while Kyle Lannom and Ryan Desbiens both received honorable mention.
According to Tiger baseball coach Rhett Hellgren, Sammons’ all-around performance on the diamond this year made him deserving of the honor.
“He was our leader on and off the field.  He has a great attitude and always comes to play.  When our team did well, it was because he had something to do with it,” Hellgren said.
According to maxpreps.com, Sammons did well as a Tiger hitter and pitcher this season, earning 13 strikeouts in 18 innings in the last four games of the season. As a catcher, Sammons threw out nine base runners.
“I can’t remember a guy throwing that many guys out in one year,” Hellgren said. “And one the mound, Sage ended up being our No. 1 pitcher. He really learned how to work the batter — whether going fastball or curve, or by going in, out, up or down.  He did a great job there as well.” In 61 at-bats, Sammons batted .410 with six runs, 25 hits, 12 RBIs, six doubles and one home run this season, according to maxpreps.com.
Hellgren also was pleased with Lannom, a sophomore, and Desbiens, a freshman, receiving honors.
“It is great to see a freshman and a sophomore get recognized for doing well,” Hellgren said. “If they keep working and getting better, we should be in good shape for the next couple of years.”
Lannom had 63 at-bats with 17 runs scored, 18 hits, six RBIs and two doubles. He also pitched 31 2/3 innings, earning 23 strikeouts.
Desbiens had 53 at-bats, nine runs scored, 18 hits, six RBIs and a double. He pitched 6 2/3 innings this season, earning five strikeouts.
