Heavy smoke from wildfires in Long County forced the cancellation of Friday’s baseball game in Nahunta between Long County High School and Brantley County High School.

Long County Athletic Director Karen Swindell said she isn’t sure when the game will be played. The high school was closed Friday after Thursday night’s fires forced folks to be evacuated from their homes. Some where housed at the school gym, which served as a temporary shelter.

The Blue Tide (5-8) play Monday against Claxton High School in a non-region game. The Tigers have a 4-10 record overall. Long County has played Claxton twice and won both games, including a 9-6 win earlier this month. The game is in Claxton and it begins at 5:45 p.m.
