Long County High School recently had its 2009 Basketball Senior Night, when seniors affiliated with the teams were recognized for their work.

The seniors were escorted by parents, grandparents, relatives and friends, and recognized for all they had achieved during their four years with the program.

The seniors stood out from many in the past based on success of both the girls and boys teams.

In 2007, during this group’s sophomore year, the Lady Tide advanced to the first round of the state tournament, something that had not happened in 27 years. That year, the girls team finished fourth in the 2-AA Region. This year, the Lady Tide finished with the number two seed in the region with a 12-4 record.

The Blue Tide boys have advanced to the finals of the Region 2-AA championship over the last two years, and won the title last year. At state the boys advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2007 and the Elite 8 in 2008. This year they go into the region tournament as the number one seed with a record of 14-2 and ranked number nine in the state in the
GaSports.com/GACA Coaches Poll.

Senior cheerleaders recognized were Octavious Baker, Katharina Devera, Farryn Brittany Chapman, Heather Cierra Reddish, Liz Schwab and Ashley Reeves.
