Long County drops seasons first region game

Long County baseball team lost its first big Region 2-AA matchup in Pembroke Friday against Bryan County.
The Blue Tide had opportunities, but the Redskins nosed out a 3-2 victory.

The Redskins led 2-0 early, and the Blue Tide came within a run in the third. Bryan County answered in the fourth. The Blue Tide did score one more run, but then didn’t get another player across home plate. 

Trae Davis had 2 RBIs in the game. Tripp Stapleton was 2 for 2. Josh Gordon took the loss, walking seven and striking out five.
With the loss, Long County fell to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the region. Bryan County improved to 8-4 overall and evened its region mark to 1-1.

Tuesday, the Blue Tide were back at home, playing Benedictine Military School (7-4 and 2-0) in another region game. Results were not available by press time.
Friday, Long County plays McIntosh County in Darien for more region action. The Buccaneers are struggling, 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the region. The first pitch will be thrown at 6 p.m.

Highlanders

In other baseball news, First Presbyterian Christian Academy was in Stillmore Friday and took a 9-4 win. Highlander Kyle Hill got the win, and James Arnold lead the team in hits. The Highlanders were in Sandersville Saturday and lost to Brentwood.

FPCA was to play at Twiggs Academy Tuesday. Going into that game, FPCA was 4-1 overall and 1-0 in Region 2-AA.
