Tryouts are underway at Bradwell Institute and Liberty County High School for the newest sport in the Liberty County School System.
The system is adding flag football for the 2026-27 school year at the high school level, with plans to add it in the middle schools the following year. The Georgia High School Association began crowning state champions in flag football in 2020.
The school system also may introduce wrestling in coming years.
“We’re having that discussion,” Deputy Superintendent Zheadric Barbra said recently.
Also on tap in future years are stadium projects at two middle schools and lighting projects at Bradwell’s on-campus facilities.
With proceeds from the education special purpose local option sales tax, or ESPLOST, the system has finished tennis courts at Bradwell, a turf baseball field at Liberty County High School, a HVAC update at the LCHS field house, weight rooms at both high schools and all three middle schools, new turf softball fields at both high schools and tracks at both high schools.
The school system’s three middle schools play an intra-district schedule, but those middle school teams and programs may be joining a conference involving other area middle schools. Doing so would allow for more competition while keeping travel distances relatively short
