The Long County Lady Blue Tide softball team is getting hot at the right time and they stayed hot after a big 2-1 win over Class 7A top 10 team Richmond Hill on Tuesday.

The Tide lost in blowout fashion to the Wildcats earlier in the year, falling 8-0. However, the Tide got their revenge in Ludowici as they rallied late in Tuesday’s game.

The Wildcats threatened first, with two hits to put runners on first and second with just one out on the board. Hollan Clark’s diving catch in left field helped thwart the potential rally.

But the Tide offense couldn’t take advantage, and didn’t get a base runner until the fourth inning.

Sophia Brewster was solid in the circle for the Tide, recording two strikeouts in the top of the second and retiring three straight Wildcats to bring her team back up.

In the top of the fourth, the Tide got another great play to keep the Wildcats off the board. Yaya Sikes made a great throw from left field to home plate as a runner was rounding third base.

Catcher MK Crews caught the runner in a rundown before making the tag at third to end the inning.

Brewster got the Tide its first baserunner with a single into left field. Crews walked to put two runners on with two outs, but they were left stranded to end the inning.

The Wildcats finally made some noise as Monaco Lennon hit a solo home run over the left field wall.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Tide finally got some movement on the bases. Jersi Lester reached first on an error before Rilyn Williams singled to put two runners on with two outs.

Brewster came back up at the top of the lineup and hit a hard double down the left field line to score both Lester and Williams to give the Tide a 2-1 lead going into the sixth.

Crews threw out a potential base stealer in the sixth to preserve the lead. Brewster recorded two more strikeouts in the seventh, both looking, to seal the win.

With the win, the Tide are now 14-2 on the year and are still atop the GHSA Class 4A postseason power rankings. They host Southeast Bulloch in another key region game on Thursday, September 24 before playing what could be potentially the region championship game on Tuesday, September 29 against West Laurens in Dexter.
