The University of South Carolina Beaufort has secured another great athlete: Liberty County High School senior Jada Wilkins.
Wilkins signed her contract to compete as a track and field athlete for USCB in the media center of LCHS, surrounded by her friends, family and coaches.
Before signing, Wilkins and her family said a few words—mostly of thanks and congratulations.
“Thank you everyone for coming, and having that faith in me,” Wilkins said.
“We are so proud of you Jada, and of all your accomplishments,” Wilkin’s mother said. “We wish you the best in everything you do.”
Wilkins will be focusing on the 800 meter, the 4x4 relay, and occasionally the 400 meter for the school, she said. Wilkins got accepted to USCB about three weeks ago, and is looking forward to the atmosphere.
“It feels like a family,” Wilkins said. “I went there and toured it several times, and they already made me feel like I was family. The Bluffton campus stuck out to me.”
Wilkins has her sights set on improving in track, specifically beating her personal records in her events. But, she won’t forget the time in Liberty County. Wilkin’s best memories of track include traveling to meets out of state, and goofing off with her teammates.
“Anything is possible, even though times get hard, keep going and get better,” she continued.
