Mothers Day on Fort Stewart
Weekly FMWR briefing for May 7-13

Make it a special day for mom by treating her to the delicious Mother’s Day Brunch at Club Stewart from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday.

The menu includes breakfast items, carving station with top round of beef, salad station, pork loin with peach glaze, roasted teriyaki chicken, loaded mashed potatoes, spring rice blend, green beans almondine, corn soufflé, dessert station with chocolate fondue, and Mimosas.

The cost for adults is $14.95 in advance and $17.95 at the door. The price for children is $6.45 in advance and $7.45 at the door. Children ages 4 and under eat free.

Corkan loves Mothers Day

Single-parents day

Corkan Family Recreation Area facilities' monthly discount day for single parents moves to Cypress Sam’s Treehouse on May 16 for indoor Playland fun. Admission is $1.50 per person from 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m.

Children’s Book Week at library

Children, up to age 12, can celebrate Children’s Book Week by hearing Eric Carle stories and by making their own book from 4-5 p.m. May 16 in the Children’s Room at George P. Hays Library. There is no charge. For more information, call 767-2828. 


Golf scramble at Taylors Creek 

The Garrison Commander’s 4-Person Golf Scramble at Taylors Creek Golf Course will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. May 18. 

The cost is $35 for active duty, military retirees, Army civilians and golf club members. It is $45 for civilian guests. The registration deadline is May 16 or when the first 25 four-person teams have signed up.

Splashpark’s opening

The fun starts May 18 at the Splashpark at Cypress Creek. Bring the kids and be prepared to watch them have a ball getting wet.

Opening day hours are 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Normal hours are 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. with “Toddler Splash” on Friday and Monday from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Remember “Toddler Splash” is for ages 0-5 only.  The cost is $1.50 per person. For more information, call 767-4273.


Armed Forces Kids Run

America’s Armed Forces Kids Run events are planned at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield in support of Armed Forces Day on May 19. Registration will close May 18.Stewart and Hunter youth, ages 5-13, can participate in the non-competitive runs. Ages 5-6 will run five-tenths of a mile; ages 7-8 will run one mile; and ages 9-13 will run two miles.

The runs will be at Jordan Youth Gym in conjunction with the Get Fit… Be Strong Fitness Tour. It will be followed by a Community/Family Fitness Day.

Activities will run from 9 a.m.-noon.

Jump rope athlete Buddy Lee and his team will do a fitness presentation. Winners during a jump rope contest win $200 and $300 prizes.

T-shirts will be awarded to all youth participants. Parents may run with their children if they wish.

The Hunter run will get under way at 9 a.m. in the area of Steven Douglas and North Perimeter roads. Kids taking part in the run will receive T-shirts.

Face-painting will be available and Tuttle Army Clinic nurses will be on hand to provide information about obesity, diabetes and nutrition.

Wrestling at Newman

International Championship Wrestling, which has provided entertainment to the U.S. military around the world since 1986, will present a five-match event at Newman Fitness Center at 7 p.m. May 19.

The two-hour event will feature Scotty Too Hotty vs. Shawn Daivari, Mackinzie York vs. Becky Kennedy, John Saxon vs. Steve Anthony, Scott Phoenix vs. The Purple Haze, and Zane Stevens and Big Hoss vs. Rex Andrews and Justin Overstreet.

50-Bird Skeet Shoot at Hunter

A quarterly, 50-bird skeet shoot will start at 8 a.m. May 19 at the Hunter Army Airfield Skeet Range. The range is off South Perimeter Road.

Prizes, giveaways and food are included in the $25 entry fee. The cost is $40 for skeet and trap competition (with a total of 100 birds). 

Depending on the number of entries, competition is scheduled in novice, intermediate, expert, youth and ladies categories.

A $200 prize will be awarded for a perfect round.

The registration deadline is May 17. Sign up at the range. Registration costs for the first 15 soldiers who sign up will be paid by Mossy Oaks Gun Club.

Shotguns for those who do not have one will be available on a first-come basis. Available are .12 and .20 gauge and youth .20 gauge.

Tots Big Wheel Derby

Stewart Lanes Bowling Center will have its first annual "Tots Big Wheel Derby" from 4-7 p.m. May 21. An obstacle course for tots in the parking lot will allow all little ones who bring their Big Wheels to show their stuff.

Youngsters can have fun participating in the derby or just watch others having fun.

Summer Reading Program Registration

Registration begins May 30 for the Summer Reading Program at George P. Hays Library. There’s no charge. The program is for children up to age 12.

The theme is “Reading Is Sooooo Delicious.” It begins June 1 and continues through July 27, meeting from 4-5 p.m.

Participants receive a special reading bag and reading lists.

Youth Sponsorship kayaking

Registration ends May 31 for a Youth Sponsorship kayaking trip to Skidaway Island State Park on June 2.

The trip is for CYSS-registered Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield youth in grades 5-12 to learn more about their surroundings and meet new friends. They will learn how to kayak and will explore the inter-coastal waterways near the park.

The cost is $15 per person. Register at Parent Central Services, 767-2312 on Stewart or 315-5425 on Hunter. A $5 cancellation fee will be applied after May 31 or for no shows.

All-Army 10-Miler Qualifier Race

Registration is under way for the All-Army 10-miler Qualifier Race, scheduled for June 2 at Donovan Field. Soldiers may earn the right to represent the 3rd ID in the prestigious Oct. 21 race in Washington, D.C.

The Stewart/Hunter qualifier will begin at 5 a.m. Qualifying is for active duty only, but relatives are more than welcome to run with their soldier for encouragement. There is no charge.

Two vans will be provided for carry Hunter soldiers to and from the Stewart Qualifier. The vans will leave Tominac Fitness Center at 3:30 a.m.

Hunter participants have until close of business on May 31 to notify personnel at Tominac. Call 315-2019/5078. 

Registration will be accepted on the day of the event, from 4 a.m. to 4:45 a.m. at the Donovan Field parking lot.

Participants can sign up in advance at the Bennett Sports Complex from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by calling 767-8238. 

Division representatives will be the top six runners in men's open, women's open, men's masters (40 and older) and women's masters (40 and older). 


Hunting, fishing permits online

Beginning June 4, sportsmen who hold recreation, hunting or fishing permits for Fort Stewart or Hunter Army Airfield may renew them online through WebTrac at

The service is available for permit renewals only. Those who are obtaining permits for the first time must do so at the Pass and Permit Office at Stewart or Hunter. The Stewart office's number is 435-8061. The Hunter office's is 315-5163.

Also beginning on June 4, Stewart/Hunter sportsmen will use their pass number to log in, rather than the nine-digit number previously used.

Teen high adventure camp

Registration will close June 7 for the action-filled Teen High Adventure Camp June 17-22 in the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina.

The annual trip is sponsored by the Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield Child, Youth and School Services and is open to CYSS-registered youth 13-17.

Youth can learn lifetime outdoor adventure skills through an array of activities including two white-water rafting trips, tubing, zip-lining and hiking on the Appalachian Trail.

Family style meals, cabins, and activity fees are included in the camp registration fee of $150 per person.
