Women's flag football league organizing
Weekly FMWR briefing for Aug. 12-18

Represent the 3rd ID Oct. 20 in the Army Ten-Miler in Washington, D.C., by being one of the top three men or women finishers in a qualifier race on Donovan Field Saturday.

Only active duty may qualify, but family members are welcome to run.

The qualifier begins at 5 a.m. Runners can register from 4-4:45 a.m. at the field. For more information, call the Sports Office at 767-8238.  

 

500-meter swim

Appointments are being scheduled for swimmers who want to compete in a 500-meter race at the Tominac indoor pool.

The swim is from Aug. 19-23 and a prize will be awarded to the fastest man and woman. There is no charge. Registration closes on Aug. 22.

Golf scramble

Col. Kevin Gregory and CSM Louis Felicioni invite you to play in the Garrison Commander's Golf Scramble Aug. 23 at Taylors Creek Golf Course. Register by Aug. 22.

Play is limited to the first 25 four-person teams. Cost is $45 per soldier, retiree, Army civilian, and Taylors Creek or Hunter Club member; $55 per civilian guest. Cost includes tournament, golf car, driving range balls, prizes and catered lunch. Mulligans are available.

Jaguars vs. Eagles

See the Jacksonville Jaguars play the Philadelphia Eagles in Jacksonville Aug. 24. Leisure Travel luxury coach departs at 4:30 p.m. Seats are on a first-come basis.

Wellness fair

Sample various aerobic classes, taught by certified instructors, beginning at 9 a.m. Aug. 24 at Newman Fitness Center.

Demonstrations will include kick-boxing, step, zumba, line-dancing and more. It's part of a free health fair featuring assessments, nutritional information and health screenings.

Yes, there really is a National Crackers Over Keyboard Day, and Stewart Bowling Center is celebrating.

Golf 4 Life

A free Golf 4 Life clinic will from 9-10 a.m. Aug. 31 at Hunter Golf Course.  

It's part of a series of clinics. Beginners can learn the basics, while novice golfers improve their game.

Get Fit … Boot Camp

September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, and Youth Sports is offering a way to stay fit.

It’s the “Get Fit … Be Strong” Boot Camp every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. starting Sept. 3 at the Youth Sports Baseball Complex at the corner of Hero and Coe Avenues.

It's free for CYSS-registered youth (ages 11-17). Parents/guardians are also encouraged to participate. Registration is ongoing until Sept. 3. The program continues until Sept. 26.

Bridal showcase

Do you have a skill or product that would thrill future brides, such as planning, photography, flowers, favors, music, cakes, art work, or decorations are always needed by brides.

A Bridal Showcase to help with wedding planning and preparation, will be from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Club Stewart Sept. 7.

Showcase attendees will receive gift bags and a passport for vendors to stamped that could $500 wedding reception certificates in a drawing.

Admission will be $10 per person for active duty and $13 for others. The showcase is open to the public.

 

Women's flag football

The Women's Battalion-Level Flag Football League will let female soldiers prove who has best team in the division. Play begins Sept. 10, with games scheduled for 6, 7 and 8 p.m. at Bennett Sports Complex.  

Battalions interested in playing need to submit a memo to the sports office. Register by Aug. 21.
