Editor, To the following (in order of importance), homeowners, renters, landlords and slumlords: There will be a neighborhood crime watch meeting for the area around Irene Thomas Park in Hinesville, in the park pavilion, at 11 a.m. June 19.
I hope Mayor Thomas, Councilman Anderson and either CSM Ashman or BG Phillips (we have military who reside in the area) will attend. Along with crime we can discuss unkept yards, etc.
Hopefully, a concentrated team effort by Hinesville government, Fort Stewart command and realtors can fight the growing blight/slumlord problem. This problem seems to be growing throughout Hinesville. Mayor Thomas told me this. This problem is tied to criminal activity.
Mayor Dave Bing, newly elected Detroit mayor and NBA all-star, will confirm this and is taking aggressive action against it there.
