A 9-pin, no-tap bowling tourney

 

A 9-pin, no-tap bowling tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relaty for Life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Marne Lanes on Fort Stewart.

It costs $20 per bowler for three games.

Prizes will be awarded for high team series (4 bowlers) doubles high game, individual high game and lowest individual score with the fewest gutter balls.

Biggest Loser
registration open

 

Registration continues until Feb. 4 for the Liberty County YMCA’s new Biggest Loser Challenge.

Three six-member teams will face off to see which one loses the most weight.

The contest runs from Feb. 9 until April 9.

Workouts are set for Mondays and Wednesdays. Challenges are set for Thursdays.

The time slots available are 5:30 a.m., 9:15 am, and 6:30 p.m.

Under-18 participants must have parental permission

The cost is $100 for YMCA members, $120 for non-members. All participants must pass a health history pre-screening. Eligibility will be determined by body-fat percentage

The ninth annual mixed teams and mixed doubles tournament is set for Jan. 24-25 at AMF Savannah Lanes. The cost is $30 per event.

Register for track and field

 

Registration for Fort Stewart youth track and field began Jan. 20, and is open to all CYS members who are between the ages of 7-14 by Dec. 31, 2009.

Six-year-olds may participate provided they turn 7 before next Jan 1. Age groups are 7-8, 10 and under, 12 and under, and 14 and under for both boys and girls.

Register between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at CYS, building 443 on Gulick Avenue. CYS is open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Wednesdays. For more registration information, call 767-2312. For more information on track and field, call 767-4371 or 767-9270.

 

Junior NBA/WNBA Skills Challenge

 

Local youngsters, 9-14, can participate in the Junior NBA/Junior WNBA Skills Challenge. The program provides boys and girls, competing separately, a free opportunity to showcase their skills in shooting, dribbling and passing. The Liberty County YMCA will host the competition at noon Saturday, Feb. 21.

Participants may register the day of the event and must bring a copy of their birth certificate and complete a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.

Champions from the local competition will have the opportunity to advance to 1 of 35 regional competitions across the country in hopes of advancing to the national finals in Orlando, Fla.

Rec Chess Club Tournament

 

The Liberty County Recreation Chess Club, formerly known as the Coastal Chess Club, is hosting a tournament from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Shuman Center. The tournament is open to anyone who wants to play chess. The entry fee is $8. $5 of each entrance fee will go to the tournament winner. Tip-off club needs volunteers
