In collaboration with the March of Dimes, the Chi Pi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. will host its second annual 5K walk/run Nov. 12 to promote prematurity awareness.
Runners, walkers, volunteers and supporters should meet in front of the Liberty County Courthouse at 8 a.m. for a 3.1-mile trek through downtown Hinesville.
The 5K entry fee ranges from $25-$35 and is dependent upon registration deadlines. The registration fee includes a T-shirt and prizes for winners in various age categories.
During last year’s race, Chi Pi Zeta raised several hundred dollars. Proceeds went to the March of Dimes and were used to provide scholarships to local students.
Chairwoman Elizabeth Marlin said she hopes to gain a greater level of community involvement, simultaneously increasing the support for an essential cause.
November is Prematurity Awareness Month. Premature births are the leading cause of death among newborns. Working with the March of Dimes, fundraising, education and other activities are implemented through Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. to save babies’ lives.
Chi Pi Zeta is seeking runners, walkers and sponsors for the event. Registration and sponsorship forms and online payment options can be found online at www.chipizeta.org.
