A special delivery at Liberty Regional Medical Center is capturing the attention of the community this Easter season, as a healthy baby boy was born on Good Friday, sharing the same birthday as his mother.

The rare and meaningful moment brought joy to both the family and the care team, creating a memory that will be celebrated for years to come. To help mark the occasion, Hopper the Easter Bunny made a visit to the hospital, providing a festive photo opportunity and adding an extra touch of celebration for the family.

“This is one of those moments that truly reflects the heart of what we do,” said Derek Rozier, chief executive officer of Liberty Regional Medical Center. “Welcoming a new life is always special, but to share that experience on a day that already holds such personal meaning for this family makes it even more memorable. We are honored to be part of these moments.”

While the story highlights a unique and joyful birth, it also underscores the importance of access to obstetric care in rural communities. Liberty Regional Medical Center is one of only two remaining Critical Access Hospitals in Georgia that continues to provide labor and delivery services.

As many rural hospitals across the state and nation have been forced to discontinue obstetric services, access to care close to home has become increasingly limited for many families.

“At Liberty Regional, we understand how critical it is for families to have access to safe, high-quality care close to home,” Rozier added. “Our commitment to maintaining obstetric services reflects our dedication to the health and well-being of mothers, babies, and families throughout our community.”

LRMC’s perinatal team provides comprehensive care for mothers and newborns, ensuring that families receive compassionate, skilled support during life’s most important moments.

For one local family, this Good Friday delivery will always hold a deeper meaning, marking both a new beginning and a shared birthday that will be celebrated together for years to come.
