The Hinesville Area Arts Council will host an exhibit featuring abstract artwork by Shirley “Yvette” Coppet, “Art for the Soul” for May.
Coppet is a retired sergeant first class from Fort Stewart. In addition to being a wife and mother of three, she is currently a real estate professional. She said becoming a Realtor gave her the freedom to explore the possibility of fulfilling a longtime dream of becoming an abstract artist.
She is a self-taught, aspiring abstract artist.
“I see and hear abstract all around me. I love working with acrylic paints and different gel mediums, everyday household items that help create textures,” Coppet said. “What some see as chaos, I see as beauty. Abstract is forgiving, beautiful, timeless and, most of all, powerful.”
The exhibit will open with a free community reception at the Gallery, 102 Commerce St. in downtown Hinesville from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday. The Gallery is open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
