Sign-up for the Cardboard Boat Regatta at the Tominac Fitness Center Pool on Hunter at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 28.

Participants must build a boat using cardboard and duct tape only. No charge to enter.

Each boat will race one length of the pool with a two-person crew. Paddles provided. The three competition categories are kids, adults and adults versus kids. Plus, a prize will be awarded for the best-looking boat.

‘Walking Dead" tour

Register by Feb. 28 for “The Walking Dead” tour in Atlanta March 7. Visit the hospital where it all started on "The Walking Dead." Go inside the goat farm and see where the Vatis camped.

Weightlifting challenge

Register to compete in the Powerlifting and Bench Press Challenge at Newman Fitness Center on March 14.

Contestants must be at least 16 to enter and will be placed into one of 11 weight classes (male and female). Awards will be presented to the top three bench press and power lifters and each paying participant gets a T-shirt.

Registration through Feb. 28 is $20 per competitor. It goes up $5 March 1 until the day of competition. For more information, call 767-3031.

Weigh-in is 8:30 a.m, competition brief at 9:30 and the challenge at 10.

 

Zoo trip

Come face to face with wildlife of South America, Africa, Australia and even the Florida during a visit with Leisure Travel to the Jacksonville Zoo on March 14. Register by March 12. The cost of $25 for adults and 20 for kids includes transportation and admission.

Offshore fishing

Register by March 15 for a day of offshore fishing out of Jekyll Island on March 21. The cost of $135 per person includes bait, tackle and transportation. Participants must be at least 12. Swing tune-up

Buy a large bucket of range balls and get a 10-minute tune-up of your swing from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. March 21 and 28 at Hunter Golf Course. There’s no charge. For more information, call 315-9115.

 

Frisbee league

Registration continues until March 6 for companies that want to find out if their Frisbee team is the best on Fort Stewart. Games begin March 16 at the Sports Annex. There is no charge. Interested companies should submit a memo to the Bennett Sports Office. For more information, call 767-8238.

 

Bass tournament

The catch-and-release Marne Trail Bass Tournament will begin at safe light March 21 at Pineview Lake.

Cash prizes are $250 for first-place (total weight, five-fish max) and $100 for the largest bass. Weigh-in begins at 11 a.m.

Stewart/Hunter permit holders can fish from the bank or boat (trolling motors only). No live bait. Boat rentals are available at Holbrook Equipment Center to military ID cardholders with boat safety certificates.

Registration costss $20 until Feb.28 for soldiers, retirees and family members and all youth (15 and younger); and $30 for civilians. The fee goes up $5 March 1-20, and another $5 on the day of the tournament.

Hog hunt

Register by March 19 for a Managed Hog Hunt in Delta Complex of Fort Stewart March 28.

Register at the Stewart or Hunter Pass and Permit office. Gold Star family members, Purple Heart recipients and WTB soldiers will receive invitations. The hunt is also open to soldiers and retirees.

The 40 slots will be filled by lottery March 19. The cost for those selected is $10 per person. For more information, call 767-4316.

 

Suns vs. Hawks

See the Phoenix Suns and Atlanta Hawks clash at Phillips Arena in Atlanta April 7. Cost is $30 for tickets only, $80 for tickets and transportation. Bus-trip deadline is March 2.
