A mother's greatest priority
pastor corner

This Sunday is Mother’s Day, a day we honor mothers for who they are and for all they do.

A world without mothers would be a sad and needy world because of all they do. When children are young, it is primarily the mother who changes diapers, feeds and cares for them; although this is no excuse for fathers helping out. When children grow up, which there is some debate that some never do, it is the mother who gives the shoulder to cry on.

There could be a long list of all that mothers have done and still do, and they do deserve to be appreciated.

There is one accomplishment that stands out above the rest; it should be a mother’s greatest priority. She should be an example to her kids by choosing to follow Jesus Christ and teach them to follow her example. The Apostle Paul in scripture, reminds his student Timothy that it was his mother who had a great influence in him, coming to faith in Christ.

In chapter 1 verse 5 he says, "I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well."

All the other great things a mother does have temporal benefits, but leading them to Jesus has eternal benefits.

If you had a mother who led you to Jesus Christ, be thankful. If you are a mother, ask the Lord to help you not only to lead your children to Jesus but to help mold them into godly parents who will be able lead their children in the right direction.
