On the first Easter day, after Jesus had arisen from the grave, he appeared to his disciples and John 21 tells us that "The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord."

Easter was and still is a time to rejoice over the fact that Jesus, the Messiah and the Savior of the world, is alive. The scriptures teach us that we serve a living Savior who ascended and is sitting at the right side of God the Father interceding for us.

In Matthew’s gospel, we are told that there was much more to Easter than just celebrating Jesus Christ’s resurrection, for right after it, Jesus gave the disciples what is known as "the great commission."

It reads, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them everything I have commanded you."

In other words, it was now the disciples responsibility to tell others of the resurrection and significance of it. This message was that Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world and he, being a living Savior, made it possible for mankind to be in a right relationship with God the Father and receive eternal life.

There are some who seem to get excited about Easter Sunday and will take time to go to church, but as soon as this day is over they go back to a routine where the Lord is just an afterthought. I hope this year that all of us who fall under the banner of "Christians" will understand our awesome responsibility to share the good news with others. There are so many that need a life change and a reason for hope and we have the answer.
