Evidence of God's presence
pastor corner

I was reading something this morning in the scriptures that I had read many times before, but hadn’t noticed a part of the details.

It just goes to show you that you can teach old dogs new tricks. The truth of the matter is that we should be learning until we leave this world.

Anyway, I was reading in the book of Acts where the early disciples experienced the presence of God at the Day of Pentecost. It says in chapter 2, verse 2, "Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting."

What I didn’t really pay attention to before was what was said in verse 6 where it says that the crowd who had gathered at Jerusalem "heard this sound." Their response was that they came to where the disciples of Jesus were experiencing God’s presence.

The truth I got out of this was that when we, as Christ’s followers, experience God’s presence, others outside our family of believers ought to be effected by it.

In other words, the noise of what God is doing in our lives ought to be heard by everyone in our sphere of influence. They ought to hear about it and see it with their own eyes. Also, word ought to get out into the community about great things God is doing in and through our churches.

There will never be another initial Day of Pentecost when the early disciples of Jesus were first filled with the Holy Spirit, but we can experience a personal filling and that can affect those around us.
