Failed expectations can be gifts from God
pastor corner

Recently, I wanted to buy a good used vehicle and checked on craigslist.org. I found what I thought matched my expectations, but I had to drive more than an hour away to see it.

The vehicle was a few years old and advertised as being in mint condition, which was verified by the owner during a phone conversation. So, I got in my car and drove the distance, only to find that their definition of mint condition was not mine. The vehicle had low miles but had a broken windshield, one of the sun visors was broken off and the other one was about to fall off. Also, the tires had a couple thousand miles left on them, the brakes badly needed replacing, and the back window would not go down.

Needless to say, I did not buy that car.

In life, we have many disappointments, things that do not come up to our expectations. We also have many people who disappoint us in both romantic and casual relationships. There is one relationship that will not disappoint us — our relationship with Jesus Christ.

You notice I did not say religion will never disappoint, but I said a relationship with Jesus won’t. In several translations, Hebrews 13:5 is interpreted as, “God has said, ‘Never will I fail you, never will I forsake you.’” Over many years of serving the Lord, I can testify that he has never failed me. Not everything went the way I thought it should have at the time, but he knows what I need and allows things to happen for my overall good. As I look back, there are so many times I am thankful things did not go the way I wanted them to.

If you have not given over your life to follow Jesus, test him. And you will find out that he will be faithful and meet your expectations.
