Life can be ultimate carnival ride
pastor corner

If you are a fan either of the Bulldogs or the Yellow Jackets, you rode that coaster hard last Saturday. In all of my years of watching football (or any other sport), I do not remember a time when a game has swung back and forth like that. Even a basketball game with a one-point difference doesn’t feel like that.
With 18 seconds left, Georgia thought it had won, while Georgia Tech and its fans already were thinking about “what if” and next year. But, as Yogi Berra once said, “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.” Or, as coaches say it, “You play to the whistle and the final buzzer.” And the game had one of the most improbable finishes I have ever seen.
Full disclosure: I have been a Tech fan my whole life, so for the first time in six years, I was happy with the final result.
Life is so much like that ball game. First of all, there are the ups and downs. We have highs and lows that are real and powerful.  There are times when life is going exactly as we would like, and times when nothing goes our way.
But once you are on the ride, you can’t get off. You have to finish.
Life is like the game in other ways. Again, “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.” God gives us second chances — and third and fourth and so on and so forth. He is so good to us in that way. We do not have to give up at halftime, or even at the end of the third quarter. In fact, in the game of life, we can be losing by a seeming insurmountable margin with only seconds remaining. But if we call on the Lord, he will give us the victory.  Nothing can defeat our God.
I do not know where you are in this so-called game of life, but I hope that you have chosen your team well. I hope that you are on the Lord’s team. Ultimately, he is going to win. I know it does not seem like it yet, but he can be trusted.
Will you trust him today? What better time of year to choose Jesus than the Christmas season.
