It’s time for another exciting concert. The shepherds have been practicing their favorite songs and the anticipation is building.
The sixth annual Singing Shepherds concert is at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church in Allenhurst. The Singing She-pherds will provide an evening of praise and worship.
Each year, the group, which consists of pastors from around the area, draws a large crowd of people who come to hear the ministers preach and sing.
The pastors trade in their robes for tuxedos and walk  the “red carpet” with their spouses. Excited cries and cheers greet them as they enter the sanctuary.
The concert, however, is not just about singing.
“Every year, a donation is made to a charitable organization or to assist someone in need,” said Dr. C.L. Anderson, the concert organizer. “Contributions have been made to assist with an organ transplant, to the Tri County Protective Agency, and to assist a local church with its building fund project.
“Rev. B. T. Smith, who has served as a pastor for over 50 years and is a spiritual father to many, will be honored this year.  Pastor Smith is recognized at the state and national conventions level for his ability to line hymns.  He is one of the most gifted hymnologists in the State,” Anderson said.
The concert coordinators say they use the annual event to foster more unity in the community. Congregations and people from all over get to know each other at the concert as they gather to celebrate and relax.
From its humble beginning six years ago with four pastors, the concert has grown tremendously. Anderson assembles a talented group each year from Liberty County and nearby areas.
Seven pastors will sing this year, including Anderson of Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church in Walthourville, Pastor Bobbie J. Adkins of Mt. Zion Outreach Ministries in Glennville, Pastor Kevin L. Betton of Temple of Praise in Hinesville, Pastor John Harmon of Hodges Grove Baptist Church in Statesboro, Pastor Alvin Jackson of St Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Hinesville, Apostle Walter Ross of Trinity Holiness Church in Midway and Pastor Walter Scott of Friendship Baptist Church in Waycross. Pastor Shirley Wingate of Living Waters Ministries in Midway also will return this year to join the shepherds at the conclusion of the concert.
