Start new year off right

Here we are at the beginning of a new year, the year 2010. Some of us only dreamed of being alive in this year. We had dreams that life in 2010 would be like “The Jetsons” cartoons we watched as children.
Well, it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee. Life is not a cartoon or a dream, but what you make it. In Ecclesiastes 3-1, we learn the reasons for this. “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose.”
As we remember 2009, let’s recall the seasons we endured and the many things we learned. 2009 was what we made it. We may have had tough times, rough times, sick times, broke times and good times. What did we do to get through those times? Some prayed, some cried, some laughed, some thanked God, some did not know what to do and some asked for help. Some bought houses, some got jobs, some lost jobs, some lost friends, some lost family, some gained friends and family, some made it and some died.
We all, at some point, go through the seasons of life. Can you be ready for a season? Not all the time. You can’t predict when you will lose a family, friend, job or home. The only thing you can do is be ready. Just like squirrels, we have to prepare for a change in season.
I’m telling you today to put your family and your affairs in order for the new year one day at a time. It’s easy to say “Lord, if you can only get me (what I desire), I’ll do right from now on.” Well, what will you do when He gives you what you’ve requested? We have a short memories and tend to forget promises and lessons we’ve learned.
Start this new season and year by keeping your word. There are reasons why you’ve endured hardships.  Maybe it’s to help friends or family. Just take the time to prepare for the Lord’s return. We don’t know when it will come. Jesus said “No one knows the day or time.” Are you preparing? Start this year off right. Have a wonderful New  Year.
