Morning Glory Garden Club members hold an Arbor Day white crepe myrtle planting in honor of former member Willene McNair, who passed away in February 2012.
McNair, an Allenhurst resident since the 1970s, had been a garden-club member for three years. She was the former owner of Sew Express on Main Street in Hinesville. According to McNair’s son, Billy Middleton, she was a “people person” who enjoyed telling and hearing jokes.
Attending the event were McNair’s sons, Billy, Jimmy and Harry Middleton, other relatives and garden-club members, including Carol Ann Blauvelt, Louise Stewart, Hope Middleton, Melinda Schneider, Taylor Smith, Judy Mobley, Clayton Mobley, Jill Anderson, Judy Shippey, Beverly Hill, Beth Fletcher and OMI employee Larry Baker, who assisted with the planting.
The attendees also observed a moment of silence for Merrilyn Engelhaupt, another garden-club member who passed away Feb. 11.
