Many local businesses work every day to make shopping and business experiences a pleasure by creating and maintaining attractive locations. Join us this month in recognizing some of these attractive local businesses by nominating them for our quarterly Win-dex Awards.  Nominations for this quarter’s awards are being accepted through June 30.  This program is our way of recognizing those attractive businesses in our community.

These businesses are run by people who have figured out that looking good makes a statement about the kind of business they have.  It is good business to be an attractive property. It brings in more customers. It also helps to create a positive work environment for those who are employed there.  And attractive, successful businesses attract new businesses to our community because they make our community look good. More businesses and more successful businesses mean more good jobs and a healthier economy for our community.

As Liberty County Chamber of Commerce Director Leah Poole emphasized, “The Win-dex Awards help us recognize those businesses in our community who do such an exceptional job keeping their businesses clean and beautiful. Citizens often do not realize the negative economic impact of derelict and unsightly buildings and grounds. This award reminds all of us about how important appearances are for a healthy community.  The Win-dex Award shines a positive light on outstanding businesses that make our community look good.”

The chamber sponsors the program with Keep Liberty Beautiful to recognize businesses that make that extra effort to keep their businesses attractive and inviting. We need your help in giving these local businesses the recognition they deserve. Each quarter we select two winners from your nominations.

The brief nomination form is simple, but here are some points to consider:

• Is the exterior clean and litter free?

• Is the landscape well maintained?

• Is the building exterior attractive and not in need of repair?

•Is the frontage property mowed and litter free? Or is the sidewalk and parking area clean and maintained? Is this area free of cigarette butts?

• Are attractive plantings decorating the exterior?

• Have they recently upgraded or renovated? This could be a simple paint job to spruce things up or a full-scale renovation or new building.

• Is the entryway inviting?

•Do the efforts of this business help to improve an area that would benefit from enhancement?

•Is the business a good citizen that works to maintain the roadway and the right of way where the business is located by keeping it attractive and litter free?

•What other reasons make this business a standout?

Nomination forms are available by contacting the KLB office at 880-4888 or the chamber at 368-4445.  You can also email us at klcb@libertycountyga.com for a form as well.  The completed form can be mailed to P.O. Box 829, Hinesville, GA 31310, faxed to 368-4677 or emailed.

Remember that the reason for nominating a business is a crucial part of the judging of the awards, so make sure that you fully explain why this business is deserving of this recognition.  Send in your nomination by June 30.   Awards will be announced in mid-July at the chamber’s Progress through People luncheon.

These businesses are doing their part to create an attractive and inviting community. But that responsibility does not lie solely with our business community. All of us as citizens of Liberty County can — and should — help improve the appearances of our homes and yards, our streets and our neighborhoods, and our schools and our churches. We all benefit from a clean and attractive county. Do your part.
