Jabberwock Pageant is Saturday

Celebrating inner and outer beauty is the theme of Jabberwock 2008, presented by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Hinesville Alumnae Chapter.
Six young ladies will grace the stage at 7 p.m. Saturday at Brewton-Parker College in Flemington. After weeks of workshops and rehearsals, three young women in grades ninth through twelfth will vie for the "Miss Jabberwock 2008" title and three girls in the first through sixth grades will compete to be "Miss Delta Doll 2008."
Contestants for Miss Jabberwock are Ashley LeCounte, SháKeya Singleton, and Alyce Wells. Delta Doll contestants are Kayla Fleming, Mikia Frazier, and Mallory Roberts.
In addition to the coronations, the pageant will feature community talent in song, dance, drama and the spoken word, all centered on the theme, "The Total Woman -Mind, Body, Spirit."
Jabberwock tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students and are available for purchase from any member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Hinesville Alumnae Chapter, or by calling 884-2024. Sarah Baker and Renee Reese are co-chairwomen of Jabberwock 2008 and Yvonne Woods and Tanya Young are the main feature co-chairwomen. Rose Mullice is the chapter president.
Proceeds from the biennial Jabberwock Pageant will benefit the sorority's scholarship fund and other community service projects such as cultural events, educational seminars, health fairs, and mentoring young girls.
Ashley LeCounte is the daughter of Tonya and Charlie Beverly. A sophomore at Liberty County High School, she participates in JROTC and enjoys photography, dancing and singing. She plans to pursue a career in nursing.
SháKeya Singleton is the daughter of Yolanda and Robert Brown and Stephon Singleton. A freshman at Bradwell Institute, she enjoys dancing and singing and is interested in cosmetology.
Alyce Wells is the daughter of Marcella A. Pitts-Mclntosh and James Wells. A sophomore at Bradwell, she is a gymnast who wants to attend the University of Georgia and pursue a career as a special-needs teacher.
Kayla Fleming is the daughter of Tiki T. Fleming and James D Fleming. A first-grader at Joseph Martin Elementary, she is a Girl Scout and enjoys singing, praise dancing, reading and baking.
Mikia Frazier is the daughter of Michael and Debra B. Frazier. A fifth-grader at Joseph Martin Elementary, she enjoys reading and cheerleading. She is a member of the First Zion Baptist usher ministry and step team.
Mallory Roberts is the daughter of Molbro and Lisa Roberts. A fifth-grader at Joseph Martin Elementary, she enjoys art, dancing, singing, reading and arts and crafts. She plays softball, basketball, and soccer and is a Liberty County Recreation Department cheerleader.
