Sixty-Seven percent of people with dementia will wander. It is the most common and dangerous behavior associated with Alzheimer’s/dementia. A class regarding your loved one, dementia and safety has been set for Savannah.
You will:
a. Learn how to make your loved one’s living environment more safe
b. Know what to do if your loved one goes missing
c. Find ways to determine if your loved one should remain at home
d. Determine if your loved one with dementia should still be driving
e. Be able to enroll your loved one in the MedicAlert Safe Return program free. It is a 24-hour, nationwide emergency response service for individuals with Alzheimer’s or related dementia who are at risk for wandering.
f. Learn about Project Lifesaver and additional safety programs.
The class will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Memorial Hospital’s Mercer Auditorium. Food will be provided.
To enroll in Medic Alert/Safe Return come prepared with contact info, medication info, a current photo and wrist size of person being enrolled. To register or for more information, contact the Coastal Georgia Office of the Alzheimer’s Association at 1-800-272-3900. The training is free.
