About the volunteers
Do you know what it is like to make a child’s greatest wish come true? The volunteers and staff of Make-A-Wish Foundation of Georgia and Alabama do. The organization currently has volunteer opportunities available. If you want to be a part of helping an ill child and his/her family experience joy, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

About the foundation
The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. It is the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 74 chapters in the United States and its territories and 27 international affiliates on five continents. With the help of generous donors and more than 25,000 volunteers, the foundation has granted more than 156,867 wishes, one wish every 41 minutes, to children around the world since 1980. How the foundation works
Step 1: Referral
The foundation relies on medical professionals, parents and children themselves for referrals. Children who have reached the age of 2-1/2 and are under the age of 18 at the time of referral who have not received a wish from another wish-granting organization may be eligible for a wish.
Step 2: Medical eligibility
The foundation determines a child’s medical eligibility with the help of the treating physician. To receive a wish, the child must be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition - i.e., a progressive, degenerative or malignant condition that has placed the child’s life in jeopardy.
Step 3: Finding the true wish
The foundation sends a wish team to learn the child’s one true wish. These volunteers connect with wish children and help explore their imaginations for the experience that will delight and inspire them.
Step 4: Creating joy
Wish granters create an unforgettable experience driven by the child’s creativity. It’s an incredible experience that enriches not just the lives of the children and their families, but often an entire community.
