NAACP awards banquet is Saturday

The Liberty County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will have its 2014 Freedom Fund Awards Gala at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the new Liberty County Community Complex in Midway.
The keynote speaker is Isaac Newton Farris Jr., the former president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the nephew of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
This year’s honorees are:
• Trailblazer Award — Dr. Valya S. Lee
• President’s Awards — Evangelist Alexzine Goosby, Sheriff Steve Sikes and Jack Graves Sr.
• E.B. Cooper Emerging Leader Awards — Kevin Combs Jr. and Precious F. Williams
• Ralph Quarterman Civic Awards — Trendsetter Motorcycle Club, Fort Stewart Youth ChalleNGe Academy and Kenneth Howard.
