Start planning for Fourth of July

Celebrate the 4th of July a little early with a patriotic living history event from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Fort Pulaski National Monument.
The event will feature cannon firings, musket drills, Civil War soldier talks, guided fort tours, a historic baseball game re-creation and a 3 p.m. presentation of patriotic songs inside the fort by the Liberty County Community and Area Mass Choir.
Festival-goers can bring blankets, lawn chairs and non-alcoholic refreshments. Admission is free and additional activities are scheduled for July 2.

River Street in Savannah
Savannah’s 4th of July celebration begins July 1 with First Saturday on the River arts and crafts festival at 9 a.m. on River Street. The most patriotic pet contest is at 10 a.m. and the hot dog eating contest will is at 2 p.m. in Rousakis Plaza. There is a $10 entry fee for the pet contest. Proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Chatham/Savannah.
On July 4, there will be live entertainment at 5 p.m. and the fireworks display is scheduled for 9:30 p.m.
