An early morning fire in the 200 block of Salette Street has left a man and a woman displaced after their mobile home was destroyed in the  blaze.

According to Walthourville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Fire Chief, Anthony Burns the fire was reported shortly after 8:30 a.m. when the male occupant of the home smelled smoke.  When he went to investigate he encountered heavy smoke in the hallway and jumped out of a window to safety.  When fire fighters arrived they encountered flames shooting from a bedroom window.  The firefighters were able to gain entry into the residence through the front door and bring the fire under control within nine minutes.  Burns said it’s too early to determine how the fire started.

A unit from Liberty County Fire Services Station 15 also assisted.  Units from the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, Walthourville Police Department and Georgia State Patrol were on hand to assist.
