After months of work and fundraising, including the Dorchester Academy Kick-off Rally, the possibility of refurbishing  the former boys dormitory  is moving closer to reality. However, the hard work is not finished and the Dorchester Improvement Association still needs financial contributions.
VIP Office Furniture and Supply and various other businesses are supporting the project. Dianne Horton,  VIP owner, said, “I have always given credit to the NAACP for their support of our company in its infancy, especially Mr and Mrs. Earl Baggs. I am grateful for how they have always treated me and my company.”
Cindye Jones, director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, said she recognizes VIP as the first supporter of the Dorchester Academy Corporate Partners Program.
In an effort to get others involved, VIP issued a challenge to area businesses and corporations.
Dorchester also is implementing a “purchase a shingle campaign” to raise funds to fix the roof. Each shingle is $100 and the goal is to have 1,000 people or organizations buy shingles. Interested parties can call the Dorchester Improvement Association at 884-2347 or go to www.dorchesteracademy.com.
