A Liberty County Sheriff ’s Office deputy and her K-9 partner tracked down an elderly dementia patient Monday morning.

Cpl. Cassandra Carter and K-9 Legend found the 87-year-old man, who had wandered from his home in the Devereaux Road area. Thanks to the use of the Scent Kit, a device that preserves the scent of a person for up to 10 years, K-9 Legend tracked down the missing man. He was found a quarter- mile away in the woods, safe and sound.

“Our K9 (Legend) is not just a tool, but a loyal partner in our mission to protect and serve. Their extraordinary sense of smell and unwavering dedication have once again proven invaluable in locating another missing person,” said Liberty County Sheriff Will Bowman.
