Those tasked with promoting Hinesville and its downtown could not have picked a better day than Wednesday.

The Liberty County Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted a Georgia Downtown Association spring meet-up Wednesday, detailing the improvements that have been made to downtown and what’s to come in the future.

“Having the Georgia Downtown Association spring meet-up is important to showcase the revitalization our downtown is having,” said Leah Poole, CEO of the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce and the CVB, “but also the role we all play and how well we all play that role together.”

Representatives from other regional downtowns, such as Brunswick, Blackshear, Statesboro, Tybee Island and Hawkinsville, came to Hinesville for the event. The Georgia Municipal Association and the state Department of Community

Affairs also were represented.

Having those visitors enabled local officials to learn what resources are available and to find out what other communities do and what works for them.

Hinesville Downtown Development Authority executive director Michelle Ricketson also pointed to the benefits of networking and finding out what challenges other downtowns face.

The host community, Ricketson said, gets a chance to show off.

City Manager Kenneth Howard also showed attendees the city’s plans for downtown and long the city has been working on them.
