Allenhurst student earns graduate education award

STATESBORO — Desiree Riley of Allenhurst was one of three Georgia Southern students to receive an Averitt Award for Excellence in Graduate Research and Instruction at the 2016 Research Symposium.

The award is the highest honor bestowed upon graduate students within the Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies. The award is presented in two categories, excellence in research and excellence in instruction, and carries a $1,000 prize.

Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS — Two students from Glennville have made the spring 2016 academic achievement list at Georgia Southwestern State University.

Brett Bacon and Caela Larochester were among more than 540 students recognized for scholastic achievement.

University of North Georgia

DAHLONEGA — Lauren Ansley Umholtz of Hinesville has been named to the spring 2016 dean’s list at the University of North Georgia.

Students earn the recognition by achieving a 3.5 GPA, carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester and having no grade lower than B.

Berkeley College

Kwai Little of Hinesville has been named to the dean’s list at Berkeley College for the winter 2016 quarter.

Students who earned GPAs of 3.50 or better with a minimum of 12 academic credits qualify for the list.

Berkeley College has three campuses in and around New York City and five in New Jersey.

Troy

TROY, Ala. — Verinese Garnier of Hinesville recently graduated from Troy University.

Garnier attended Troy Online and graduated with a Master of Science in sport and fitness management degree from the College of Health and Human Services.

Valdosta State

VALDOSTA — Megan Stewart of Hinesville has earned the 2016 Dance Academic Award and Dance Service Award from the Department of Communication Arts at Valdosta State University.

Stewart was one of 22 art, interior design, art education, music, theater, dance, speech communication, and mass-media students recognized for outstanding achievement during the annual College of the Arts honors ceremony.

Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE — Virginia Oliver and Layne Newman of Glennville made the 2016 spring president’s list at Georgia College.

Also, two area students were named to the school’s dean’s list for the spring semester. They are Lisa Ouyang of Hinesville and Megan Ray of Glennville.
