Area students nominated to service academies

Four students from Liberty County and four students from Richmond Hill have been nominated to U.S. service academies. Rep. Jack Kingston’s office made the announcement on Tuesday, congratulating 17 total nominees from Georgia’s First Congressional District.
The students were interviewed for consideration into the class of 2014 by Kingston and the Military Academy Board on Dec. 4. “This year’s students are an outstanding group of young people and should be commended for their dedication. It takes a tremendous amount of hard work to achieve their level of success,” Kingston said.
The Liberty County nominees are:
• Randy Capocasale (Fleming): U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.
Capocasale, a graduate of Savannah Country Day School, is a sophomore at Duke University and a member of Duke’s ROTC program. He is the son of Daria and Randolph Capocasale.
• Kristopher Crawford (Hinesville): U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Crawford is a student at Liberty County High School and is a member of the  ROTC program. He is the son of Delores and Vincent Crawford.
• Logan Glover (Midway): U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.
Glover is a student at Liberty County High School and a recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. He is the son of Jennifer and Phillip Neal
• Demetrius Stinson (Hinesville): U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Stinson, a graduate of Liberty County High School, is a freshman at Clayton State University where he participates in several community service organizations. He has already received a letter of assurance from the Air Force Academy. He is the son of Lucretia and Douglas Stinson.
The Richmond Hill nominees are:
• Brian Calkins: U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.
Calkins is a student at Richmond Hill High School, where he is a member of the ROTC program. He is the principal nominee for the U.S. Military Academy. He is the son of Elizabeth and Martin Calkins.
• Dajah Davis: U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.
Davis is a student at Richmond Hill High School. She is a member of the JROTC program. She is the daughter of Sophia and Gregory Davis.
• Marc Stanley: Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Stanley, a graduate of Richmond Hill High School, has received an Air Force Academy scholarship to attend Northwestern Preparatory School in Crestline, Calif. He is a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He is the son of Elisabeth and Ballard Jones.
• Zachary Taylor: U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Zachary is a student at Richmond Hill High School where he is a member of the JROTC program. He is the son of Aimee and Ronald Taylor.
