SAVANNAH — To demonstrate its commitment to the military community, Armstrong State University will waive all mandatory student fees for active-duty military starting in the fall semester.
“A potential barrier to soldiers attending public institutions is the cost of mandatory fees not covered by tuition assistance,” Armstrong President Dr. Linda M. Bleicken said. “With this fee waiver, soldiers at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield will be able to pursue degree programs at Armstrong without additional out-of-pocket expenses.”
 To further extend the university’s dedication to providing quality educational opportunities for active-duty military, Armstrong will host a Start Strong, Start Now registration event Aug. 5, where soldiers will be able to apply for admission with the fees waived, receive an admission decision, go through advisement and register for fall classes. The event is from
9 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Armstrong Center, 13040 Abercorn St. in Savannah. For more information on the event, go to armstrong.edu/startnow.
Armstrong also is part of a network of universities that guarantees transferability of credits for military students, provides in-state tuition for members of the military and their families and offers college credit for military experience. Additionally, as a complement to Armstrong’s main campus in Savannah, the university operates the Armstrong Liberty Center in Hinesville, which helps members of the military community and their families pursue higher education and earn college degrees in key fields in Liberty County.
Armstrong has earned a military friendly designation by MilitaryVetJobs.com and was ranked on G.I. Jobs magazine’s annual Military Friendly Schools List in 2012 and 2013. The university recently launched a Green Zone initiative to support active-duty military students and veterans on campus as well.
