First Presbyterian Christian Academy’s Department of Music, under the direction of Shannon Hickey, has another feather to add to its cap.
The school recently sent nine of its members to participate in the Georgia Independent Schools Association’s Honor Band, Choir and Orchestra at the Lovett School in Marietta.
The ensembles included high school participants from 40 independent schools across the state of Georgia.
This is FPCA’s first year participating in all three groups, with three choral, five bands and one orchestral member. The three choir members were Alyson Hamilton, Taylor Nold and Jose Martinez.
Band members included Emily Hickey on clarinet, Will Haas and Patrick Steele on trumpet and Samantha  Haas and Tiffany Jenkinson on flute. The single representative of the orchestral ensemble, Corey Young took honors as the lead viola for the GISA Honors Orchestra.
The event opened Nov. 3 with auditions for chair placement. At the conclusion of the auditions, all three groups immediately set to preparing for a Sunday evening concert. The school’s headmaster, Reggie Burgess was in attendance, and said he was proud of the milestone and even more proud of the participating students.
Hickey hopes to send even more members to next year’s event in Columbus.
