In the true spirit of community involvement, Frank Long Elementary School hosted its third annual chili cookoff.
This year, the contest featured 13 entries, which were judged in the categories of taste, aroma, consistency, color and bite.
Each category was ranked between a low of one to a high of five and the results were tallied by a panel of six judges.
This year’s first place winner was Wendell Singleton.
Second place was awarded to Barry Crocker and Deborah Wynn placed third.
The families and student who attended also enjoyed hot dogs, chips, dessert and a drink with their $1 ticket of admission.
School officials acknowledged the hard work and dedication of their kitchen staff who helped serve drinks and set up the facilities.
Special thanks were given to this year’s chairwoman, Holly Collins, and co-chairs Shaye Howell and Mary Denham.
